Introducing Jenny To Conkers | 13/10/23

Today was a relatively uneventful one. We had actually made a plan on where we were going to head to which felt weird because usually we rock up at 8pm, cold and hungry and annoyed that people don’t speak English.

The walk took us through some pretty places and we got to meet some animals.

There was a short section that was a bit weird. Random rocking chairs and a boot left on top of a marker with absolutely no one around.

We were wandering along and a girl from Prague was walking behind us. We rounded a corner and a bench sat there waiting for our pilgrim bums. We got chatting and she was telling me about a job she had in the Maldives. I immediately thought “what a paradise place to work” but she said because it’s all so small you barely get any of your own time and choices are very limited on what you can do.

It made me think about the grass always looking greener but the moment you scratch the surface it isn’t as great as you think.

I can’t relate at the moment though. My grass is a deep green and I’m having the time of my life.

Sorry not sorry.

Also, while we were sitting there a conker fell out of a tree on to Jenny so that was quite fun. Apparently Germans don’t play conkers like us English do so I like to think this was her first lesson.

There wasn’t a single place to get a coffee in the 17km walk so when we got to the town after 5 hours of walking Jenny was on the verge of hanger (han-ger) and I needed a drink.

We sat in the bar by ourselves then within 5 minutes it was full of other smelly pilgrims. Really nice bunch of people.

As we were sitting there Jenny “is that a stamp I can hear?” Newman saw the other pilgrims getting their pilgrim passports out and jumped up to the bar to get involved with the stamping.

When we checked in I let her do the stamp in my passport. I didn’t get her anything for her birthday so I figured this made up for it.

We nipped to the supermarket to get some emergency Jenny snacks and gear up for the next day. We then made our way back to the albergue for a slap up pasta salad and some wine.

Roll on a 20km walk tomorrow
