The Bells, THE BELLS!! | 26/10/23

Well the weather has made the news. Apparently the whole area I’m walking is getting absolutely clobbered by rain.

I can testify that this is true.

It doesn’t matter how good your waterproof stuff is the rain eventually finds a way to your crotch.

There was some pretty cool stuff to see even though the weather was pony.

I also took a photo of a sign saying how many kilometers we have left.

We stopped at a “cafe” that was basically someone’s kitchen. Just a little old lady charging for coffee. There were some tiny chickens running about though so that brightened up my day.

Shame it didn’t brighten up the days day. It rained for about 5 hours solid. Not light rain either. Hard, sideways rain that penetrated the soul.

We found a bus shelter to hide from the rain gor a bit but because it didn’t stop it was that much harder going back out into it.

We also had to navigate some rather large puddles.

We were about 10km in to the walk and like a couple of drowned rats we sought the comfort and safety of a taverna next to our route. We stumbled in and noticed a fire roaring so we sat down next to that and tried to warm up a bit.

Here is a photo of Jenny trying to dry her wet arse.

We ordered a drink and asked if they did any food. Within the flurry of Spanish that came out the woman’s mouth I picked up the glorious words “Pellegrino menu”

For those that don’t know it’s basically a 3 course meal with a drink for about €10. You never really know what you’re going to get (and that’s due to my crap Spanish) but you know you will be full afterwards.

The meal we got was awesome.

Seafood rice thing, salad, potatas bravas, spare ribs, bread and a desert.

It was a welcome find within a pretty hard day’s walking.

The rest of the walk was just a misty, wet blue but the place we are staying tonight looks pretty good. It’s a monastery and it’s quite nice but every 15 minutes a bell rings a few times. It was quite cool when we were walking up to it but now, after a few hours, I kinda hate them. Anyway, still quite a cool place to stay.

Let’s hope the beds don’t squeek, the snorers don’t snore and no one decides to have a coughing fit tonight!!

BUEN CAMINO
