I slept well last night and I knew that if I ever wanted to sleep again I would have to go back to Deba and walk the 5km we missed last night. People said it was a bit crazy going back but I wasn’t going to leave 0.005% of the Camino unwalked. Imagine that!
“I can’t believe you actually walked the ENTIRE northern coast of Spain” people will say. I of course will reply “oh yeah, yeah yeah, yup. Deffo did it, did the whole thing! Would have been easy if I had missed bits out but nope, I absolutely did the lot! Definitely didn’t use a taxi.” Then I will swiftly change the conversation.

Anyway, I don’t have to worry about that because we got a taxi back to a slightly dryer Deba and started back to the albergue we had just left.
I had decided that today was going to be a rest day for me. My calf muscles, shoulder muscles and Bronson were NOT getting on so I was the bigger man and backed down from the fight, temporarily.

The 5km went by quickly and we soon found ourselves standing outside a, closed until 3, albergue. It was 12 and Micheal wasn’t done walking. It would be another 18km to the next stop and myself and Bea didn’t have it in us.
We shared a goodbye that is typically reserved for old friends but relationships build fast on the Camino and saying Ciao to the Italian third of our platonic threesome was hard. But off he went.
Once Micheal had turned to corner Bea and I walked back to an Italian restaurant that was about 300m away. I ordered two drinks in Spainish which I was incredibly proud of. The pride turned to annoyance as I remembered I am crap at Spainish and I’d ordered the wrong drinks.
I let Bea order the food. Christ knows what would have turned up if I’d done it. I haven’t had a really good meal since I’ve got here and I’ve walked 74km. 74km x one Bronson = 500km.
The meal was incredible.
After eating Italian food made by an Italian chef in an Italian restaurant (you will struggle to find a better combination) we head back to the albergue. It turned out it was full but the owner offered us a place in their other hostel. You will agree that it ain’t bad!!

Right you lot. I have 18km to walk tomorrow so I’m gonna get my head down.
BUEN CAMINO
