What a shit show of a day. From the moment I opened my eyes it was hammering it down with rain. One afternoon of reasonable weather Galicia had given us and she didn’t look like she was going to offer any more.

An Asian lady who I watched eating pistachios really loudly on her bunk bed a couple of nights ago was in the albergue and at 7am this morning she decided she was going to gobble an apple at 100db.
Seriously, WTF. It isn’t hard to eat an apple quietly.
Sorry Asian apple/pistachio eating lady, I’m tired.
The actual night itself was quite lovely. Bit of dinner, couple of drinks and a comfy bed with no snorers. Well, a bit of a snorer but he was a nice guy so I let him off. I didn’t secretly load his backpack up with a few kilograms of pebbles.

The day got a bit better as I realised the cafe next door was open so a decent coffee was on the cards. Jenny got some breakfast and I had my second coffee.
We then bid Juan adiós and braved the weather that Galicia had decided to bless us with.
We were both soaked through within about 30 minutes. It was absolutely relentless. For 5 hours we walked through rain that felt like it was being blasted out of a pressure washer.

We hadn’t stocked up on food so we were relying on emergency Jenny snacks. I just hope she doesn’t get hangry tomorrow cause we are running low.
A few blogs ago I mentioned the beauty of the gloriously green, undulating hills and how gorgeous they looked and what a sight they were.
Well I take it all back. They look alright from a distance but I think the Camino has taken a turn and now I’m walking over the sodding things.

We bunkered down in a random little shelter and I got my cooking stuff out and made us some noodles. I was quite glad because the more gas I use the less weight I carry. Then randomly some English dude came and sat down with us and offered me an unused gas canister. I said yes and now I have 2 gas canisters.
It was really nice getting some hot food in me after getting wet and getting cold. It put a spring in my step for a good 5 minutes before the rain and wind took that spring and threw it at me.

It finally started to brighten up and as it did we walked past a field with 2 mum cows and a brand new baby cow that was running around having the time of its life. That was a pleasure and made me slightly consider being a vegetarian. Then I remembered that Jenny is a vegetarian and BOTH of us can’t be vegetarians so I took a photo and carried on.

We walked past a huge section of forest that had been burnt. I’m not sure if it was a controlled one or not but there was a lot of the area affected.

We looked at Jenny’s weather app and it said it would rain in 53 minutes. My weather app tells me it’s sunny when it’s pissing it down with rain so I don’t know how hers can be so accurate. Saying that it didn’t rain in 53 minutes it rained 5 hours later so hers is a load of bollocks too.
We finally strolled into town for the last downhill and fortunately there was a railing so we both jumped on and slide the remaining decline.

Cue a lovely albergue, decent dinner and a bed with proper cotton sheets.
Tomorrow is a princess day so a short 9km walk and then an afternoon of resting up and prepping for the remaining few 20km days.

I’ll be home soon and I’m not really looking forward to it. Still don’t know what to do. I have a van to convert so after this little adventure I might fire up the blog again when I’m cruising around the south of Spain and trying my hardest not to look like a tool while surfing. We will see.
BUEN CAMINO
