Hang On, Just Got To Take My Cow For A Walk | 22/10/23

I slowly opened my eyelids and then had to double check they were actually open because it was so blimmin’ dark. The mornings have really started taking their time to arrive here.

Jenny had got a message off of her friend saying they were going to come and see her and asked where she would be today so we decided last night to try and start early.

I got down out of my bunk after one of the best night’s sleep I’ve had. Bleary eyed and craving caffeine and nicotine I went to the kitchen to get myself a cup of incredibly tasty coffee and roll my first ciggy of the day.

While I was outside Sean had got up and made his way to the kitchen. I was outside the window so I decided to start making spooky ghost noises to see if I could scare him. It didn’t work and I’m pretty sure the look he gave me could have been translated to “bellend”

I put myself in his shoes, imagined looking through his eyes out of the window at a 38 year old grown man making ghost noises and my first thought was “bellend”

Fair play Sean, fair play.

After Jenny had had her brekkie we head out into the cold dark streets of Spain in search of the sunrise.

It came and it was rather spectacular.

The way the most lay heavily on the surrounding valleys low points made for some breathtaking photos. It was even a pleasure walking up and down some hills.

The walk itself was lovely and Jenny took possibly one of my favourite photos of me from the whole trip.

I gave her 10 pilgrim points for that one.

After seeing our first road sign to Santiago we stumbled across a one eyed horse. He was so lovely and friendly. Most of the time they look at you like they are annoyed you exist but this one came up for some pats on the face scruffles behind the ears. I wanted to take him with me but if I took every animal I fell a bit in love with with me Ryanair would charge me about £100k

As we were walking I noticed Sean and Sam were behind us. The path took us through a tunnel so I figured “why not carry on being a bellend”

I waited at the end of the tunnel and when they were halfway through I boshed out a really loud evil laugh. “MWHAHHAHAHAHA”

They were deep in a podcast so I like to think I snapped them out of their moment.

Our route took us over a really nice bridge where a hippy was sitting with a load of stuff he had made himself. There was actually some really impressive stuff there. Quite a talented dude.

I took a few photos of the guys on the bridge and we carried on our merry way towards vilalba.

The way took us past another church. Most of the time this isn’t a big deal but this one actually had its doors open. Jenny was straight in there, pilgrim passport open and ready to fight a nun if the church didn’t have a stamp. Fortunately it did so I didn’t have to break up a ruck between a pilgrim and a nun, although, that would have made a good blog entry.

After quite an eventful day I thought the next thing would be checking in to the albergue bit Spain had one final suprise for me. As we were walking along we caught up to an old Spanish lady taking her cow for a walk.

I wasn’t even aware you were supposed to take cows for walks but apparently you are.

Once we got to vilalba we checked in to another lovely albergue and treated ourselves to a nice little siesta.

The Spanish know how to do things right I tell you!

I awoke, showered and then when I went downstairs sharka (a girl we keep bumping into) had made some dinner and she made me and Jenny a plate too.

After we had finished jenny’s friends turned up and we spent a couple of hours chatting in the garden. We decided to head out to eat. We had myself, Jenny, Sean, Sam, mario, carlotta and a guy called Mike in the team. We shot out into town to find somewhere, realised everywhere was closed, grabbed a bunch of kebabs and took them back and sat there chatting and eating until we were all so tired we had to go to bed.

Proper good day today. I really enjoyed it.

BUEN CAMINO
